This book made interesting reading Was an eye opener in parts I hope that some of the stories did turn out as successes as Dr Brown hoped She sounds like a really caring and kind approachable person They r lucky to have her. I really enjoyed this book It was well written, interesting and thought provoking It really opened my eyes and made me think differently about offenders, prisons, drugs and mental health I m really glad Dr Dr Brown gave up her lucrative GP practice when she became disillusioned by the regimented rules brought in by the government After sending off a letter to a medical journal in a blind moment of upset, she was offered the chance to work in prisons Although the idea frightened her and she had no inkling what it was really like, she decided the c If it hadn t been for book club, I think I would have stopped reading early on because the setting and descriptions felt contrived and superficial Annoying editorial issues like apparent immediate publication of magazine article I felt this book didn t need the novelistic approach The focus on interactions with prisoners in contrast felt honest and deep So a mixe Read this in one day and loved it It was very eye opening sad, thought provoking I had some working knowledge of the system already but only wish there was an Amanda Brown in every prison Her empathy towards the people she cared for was incredible Absolutely loved this book. Enjoyed this Is exactly what it says on the tin Interesting and eye opening Different from other medic books I ve read. Often dull and with an overwhelming feeling of fabrication, this is a forgettable memoir of unremarkable stories.
